Care for the animal. Grooming, exercising, and
pampering your pet is a big step to being a great owner or getting
attached to the pet. Don't forget that loving it is the BIGGEST step to
being close to it. If you care for it correctly and wisely, your pet may
love you back and follow your instructions.
-
Do not abuse. Many people think it is okay to choke,
spank repeatedly, slap, punch, slam, or just general abuse. But it is
not. It can cause serious future problems; not only to the animal, but
to you too. In other words, this may result in prison. If you have
abusing issues, consult a doctor and also tell the vet what you are
doing. It's the best way to prevent further problems.
-
Cuddle with it. If you feed it enough, treat it well,
let it go on coaches, beds, on your lap, and pet it frequently, your
pet will know you love them. Studies have shown that petting calms the
animal (mostly dogs) down and lowers its blood pressure and yours, as
well. It can calm stress and mental pain.
-
Let the pet socialize. If you own a dog, you may be
wondering why dogs sniff each others' tush. The reason they do this is
to socialize. You may be thinking that this is some crazy joke, but it's
not. Dogs communicate through their rumps because it sends a certain
message that only dogs understand. It's almost like a way of dogs
texting. Also, you need to let them sniff each other. Dogs' noses are
more than three (3) times more stronger than the human nose. They can
detect emotions, feelings, and personalities. Let it sniff people as
well, but control their hyperactivity. Do not let them jump on other
people because it is rude and may scratch, or in extreme cases, cut the
person.
-
Control their behavior. Although you must be kind to
the pet, treating your pet properly requires minor punishment. If it
bites you or someone else, firmly grip their nose and mouth and hold it
shut for 15 to 30 seconds and hit them firmly but gently on the nose. If
their biting behavior is too hard to handle, consult a vet or go to a
training class. If the pet is very dangerous or gives you or others
injuries, you must immediately consult a vet or the animal control.
