For all the ease and simplicity of Instagram, there are a few tricks that you may not be aware of. While you’re scrolling through and double tapping, you may not realize the additional options and capabilities you have. So, in today’s post I want to show you 5 Instagram tricks to put you ahead of the competition and make your Instagram experience that much better!

Remove Yourself From Tagged Photos

Did your “friend” tag you in a hideous photo? Did a marketer tag you in a promotional post trying to get your attention? Both are annoying and warrant your removal from their post.
Photos that you are tagged in do not show up in your followers feed but they do remain on your profile. If you click on the right-most icon on your profile (the tag shape with the person silhouette) you’ll see all the posts you’ve been tagged in. And anyone who looks at your profile can see these images.
If you don’t want a tagged photo of you on your profile, you have two options: remove the tag or keep the tag but not show the image in your profile.

Go to the tagged image and click on the three-dot button at the bottom of the post. Select “Photo Options”. You can choose to “Show in My Profile” (the defaulted setting) or change it to “Hide from My Profile”. This keeps the tag active on the photo but doesn’t show it in your list of tagged photo.
If you want to remove yourself from the photo altogether, select “More Options” and tap on “Remove Me from Photo”. The photo will not appear in your profile and the original photo will no longer reference you.

 

Share an Instagram Photo to Another Site After Uploading

You probably know that you can share your Instagram post to Facebook or Twitter at the same you upload it to Instagram. But you can also go back and share an Instagram post after you’ve already uploaded it.
Find the Instagram post in your gallery that you want to share. Click on the three-dot button at the bottom of the post and select “Share”. The photo and caption will appear as how it will be shared. The original Instagram caption is listed. If you want to edit the caption to say something else, edit it here.
Choose the account to share the post to and proceed with the sharing process. That’s all there is to it!

Hide Instagram Ads (and Provide Feedback)

Even though many fluttered into an uproar over the presence of ads on Instagram, the reality is that they aren’t that invasive or prominent. And most of the ads you see will be dependent on your Facebook preferences and interactions. Therefore, we each see different ads, targeted to each of us respectively.
Instagram ads are defined by the “Sponsored” label in the top corner.

But, if you see an ad and don’t like it or don’t want to see it, you actually have some options. Click on the three-dot button at the bottom of the ad post to hide the ad and even provide feedback. When I have seen ads that I don’t feel are “organic” to Instagram or look natural in the Instagram feed, I say “I don’t like this image”. Or you can choose that you just don’t like that company/brand as your reason.
But your feedback on ads will help Instagram ads look better, be more efficient, and control what shows up in your feed too.

Report Spammers

Spammers are everywhere, including Instagram. They comment on your posts with “check us out” or “follow me too” or by self-promoting their products or accounts. Some spammers are more aggressive than others and can be frustrating for businesses trying to actively engage on Instagram.
Personally, when I get these comments, I mention the user, tell them their comments aren’t welcome, and then I delete their comment and report them.
You can do this easily too! Open up the comments thread on your post and tap on the spammers comment. This will open a window with these options:

If you want to simply delete the comment from your post, click “Delete Comment”. If you want to report the user as a spammer, click “Delete Comment and Report Abuse”. This deletes the comment and allows you to report them for spam or inappropriate content.

See What Those You Are Following Are Doing

Have you ever wondered what the people you follow are doing on Instagram? What photos do they like? Who are they following? It’s actually really easy to find out!
When you go the News page (the comment bubble), it defaults to your notifications. But if you click on the “Following” tab, you can see what those you are following are doing. See what they’ve liked, commented on, and who they’ve started following.
I don’t advocate this in a creepy stalker way. But if you’re trying to see what your competition is doing or what your customers are engaging with, this can be a very resourceful tool.
